They have planned an intriguing format this year, including an invitational team event with legendary surfers from across the 805 area code, and an international adaptive event, while still maintaining a longboard component and brewmasters/winemakers challenge. Along with his team of visionaries, Walter Cerny, the executive director of Still Frothy and retired professional surfer, has put together an outline for an amazing surf event that we are excited about. “With Still Frothy my vision has been to rebuild the local and regional surf community, connecting people with the ocean, creating an active lifestyle. In addition, I have been so blessed by the many folks who have helped me along the way and it moves me to want to give back to to those in need. With this year’s format change we aim to connect legends of yesteryear with the future legends of our sport across the entire Central Coast,” said Walter Cerny. “Going into this year’s event, we examined what was and wasn’t working from previous years, and have put together a program we feel strongly about.”

In addition to maintaining a partnership with the city of Pismo Beach, Firestone Walker's 805 Beer is also coming alongside as a strategic partner. This years "805 Classic" event will feature the following components:

  • The invitational shortboard team division with 12 regional captains, each selecting a 6 person team of legendary surfers from throughout the 805 area code. This team event will include two rounds of heats until a winner is crowned with a prize and bragging rights for a year.

  • The invitational longboard division which will be include the 805 area code's best long boarders going at it.

  • The Brewmaster/Winemakers Challenge allowing both to vie for the claim of best surfing adult beverage maker in the 805 area code.

  • The International Adaptive Athlete's Challenge which, for the first time ever, will include an international field going going head to head as a precursor to the International Surfing Games.

  • The women's divisions which include both longboard and shortboard.

“I am so excited about the progression of this event. We are introducing some new elements that we hope will drive more interest and excitement, while still maintaining the core spirit of this event – to celebrate the surf community and provide an outlet for surfers to compete in a friendly environment,” explains Michael Phares, contest director.
